eSeed: The Stupidity Of Sin

THE STUPIDITY OF SIN
Read James 1:15 NKJ

An old man was going blind, and he came home after consulting the doctor.

“What did he tell you?” asked his wife.

“To quit drinking moonshine,” he answered, “or go blind.”

“What’s your decision?” she wondered.

“I like what I’ve been drinking better than what I’ve been seeing,” he replied, “so I’ll keep on going blind.”

Oh, the stupidity of sin! It woos, but it wounds; it stimulates, but it suffocates; it thrills, but it tortures; it accommodates, but it assassinates.

Sin always starts out as fun. But the Bible says, “Sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.”

You will turn from your sin to the Savior, won’t you?

Prayer: Our sins, Father, are ever before us. Deliver us from their guilt and grief. Forgive us and free us. Make us, we plead, conquering Christians: through Christ. Amen.

eSeed: They'd Think They Could Beat Me

THEY’D THINK THEY COULD BEAT ME
Read Ephesians 4:27-32

A teacher said, “Billy, if you were always kind to your friends, do you know what they’d think of you?”

“Yeah,” he answered. “They’d think they could beat me.”

But kindness is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Look at our Lord. All nature, all men and women, all angels are subject to His word. He defeated the devil and He conquered death. He’s stronger than the strongest, yet He’s kinder than the kindest.

Make it your rule, and pray to keep it. Never, if possible, go to bed at night without being able to say, “I’ve made someone a little better and happier by being kind today.”

That’s a sign of strength.

Prayer: Father, inspire us always to be kind, always to be helpful, and never to be jealous or envious. Deliver us from being impatient and irritable, selfish and rude: in Thy name. Amen.

eSeed: Learn To Drive

LEARN TO DRIVE
Read Luke 15:11-32

A woman angrily jumped out of her car after colliding with another, shouting, “Why don’t people learn to drive? You’re the fourth car I’ve hit today!”

We’re always ready to blame others, aren’t we?

The alcoholic says, “It’s my environment, not any evil in me.”

The criminal says, “It’s my neighborhood, not my nature.”

The person who smokes pot and indulges in sex sins says, “Everybody else is doing it. Why expect me to be different?”

But he who excuses himself accuses himself.

Happy is the one who’ll say with the prodigal, “Father, I have sinned.” He’s the one who’ll be forgiven and feasted.

Prayer: Father, we come confessing our sins to Thee, and praying that Thou wilt consecrate us. Let it be the joy of our hearts to be under the conduct of Thy word, lead by the counsel of Thy Son: in His name. Amen.

eSeed: I'm Going To Throw Away The Key

I’M GOING TO THROW AWAY THE KEY
Read Revelation 3:19-22

One night a man phoned me after a telecast and said, “I’m having a battle with the bottle. I’m losing it and I want victory.”

“It’s in the Lord,” I answered. “Unlock the door of your heart and ask Him to come in. Together you’ll win.”

He prayed, “Lord Jesus, come into my heart.” Then he added, “I’m going to lock my heart and throw away the key so the devil can’t get in.”

To you who ask the Lord to come into your heart, He comes in and He says, “I will abide with you forever.”

The Lord has never lost a battle or tied a struggle. He’s always the Victor.

Embrace the Victor and you’ll enjoy the victory.

Prayer: Come, Lord Jesus, into my heart today and stay in my heart always. Guide me throughout my life. So pardon me, possess me, and empower me that I may live all out for Thee: in Thy name. Amen.

eSeed: Handicap

HANDICAP
Read 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 TLB

Got a handicap? It can become a means of strength or a source of weakness.

Helen Keller was blind.

Thomas Edison was deaf.

Paul had a thorn in the flesh. It twisted like a torturing stake in his body.

He begged the Lord to make him well, but the Lord said to him, “No. But I am with you; that is all you need. My power shows up best in weak people.”

As Paul turned his life over to the Lord he was able to say, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Got a handicap? Turn your life over to the Lord, and you’ll find hope, help and happiness.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I give myself to Thee completely and cheerfully. Melt me and mold me. Make me a useable and fruitful instrument in Thy hand to be used for Thy purposes and Thy pleasure: through Christ. Amen.

eSeed: Nothing But Envy

NOTHING BUT ENVY
Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

Unable to think of a suitable gift for his wife, the husband asked a clerk, “What do you have for a woman who has everything?”

“Nothing but envy,” she replied.

Envy grows in our hearts like weeds in a garden. And it doesn’t help, it hinders.

If you’re exalted and I’m not, does it lift me to be envious of you? Oh, no. It lowers me.

If you’re endowed with money and I’m not, does it enrich me to be envious of you? No, it empties me.

Every time you’re green with envy you’re ripe for trouble. So let the God of love reign in your heart and the love of God will rule in your life.

Prayer: Take from our hearts, heavenly Father, all envy and evil speaking. Make us givers and not gripers, sharers and not sulkers, complimenters and not complainers. Do a work of grace in our hearts: through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

eSeed: Don't Lick The Window

DON’T LICK THE WINDOW
Read Psalm 34:1-9

A little fellow stopped at a corner store and looked at the candy on display. His mouth began to water and he pressed his nose to the glass.

But the owner shouted, “Hey, kid, don’t lick the window.”

There are many people who stand outside the storehouse of God’s provision, looking in and longing to enjoy His good gifts.

But you don’t have to stand outside, licking the window. The Bible invites, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.”

In Him you’ll have a life that can’t die, a rest that can’t be disturbed, a hope that can’t be disappointed, a happiness that can’t end, and resources that can’t be exhausted.

So come in, won’t you?

Prayer: We hurry to Thee, Father, for salvation and security, for healing and help, for victory and venture. Make us clean, compassionate and cheerful Christians: through Christ. Amen.

eSeed: I Helped Her Cry

I HELPED HER CRY
Read Romans 12:9-15

A little girl sobbed, “Mother, Susie dropped her doll and broke it.”

“Did you help her fix it?” asked the mother.

“No,” said the girl, “but I helped her cry.”

Our Lord began His public ministry at a wedding. When others were happy, He was happy with them.

But one day He stood by a grave and wept. When others were sad, He shared their sorrows with them.

Isn’t it good to know that we have a God who cares?

There’s never a trial that He isn’t there, never a burden He doesn’t bear, never a sorrow that He doesn’t share. Moment by moment, you’re under His care. Aren’t you glad God cares?

Prayer: We rejoice, Father, that Thou art always seeking to minister to our needs, healing our heartaches, comforting our sorrows and forgiving our sins. We thank Thee: through Christ. Amen.

eSeed: His Brother Was Worse

HIS BROTHER WAS WORSE
Read Ephesians 2:1-10

A man died, and his widow hoped that someone would stand up and say a good word about him at the funeral.

Nobody wanted to, but a preacher finally agreed. He said, “Well, his brother was worse.”

But salvation doesn’t depend on whether someone is better or worse than you. It’s not a reward for the good you have
done.

Morality can’t merit it. Baptism can’t buy it. Philosophy can’t produce it. Education can’t earn it. Science can’t secure it. The government can’t guarantee it. The church can’t confer it. But you may have it.

Salvation is the free gift of God. Receive it, won’t you?

Prayer: We yield ourselves to Thee, Father, all there is of us. Cleanse us from all our sin. Consecrate us to Thyself. Fill us with Thy Spirit. Make us faithful and fruitful Christians: through Christ. Amen.

eSeed: Man And The Oyster

MAN AND THE OYSTER
Read 2 Thessalonians 3:6-10

When God made the oyster, He guaranteed his security. He built the oyster a house, a shell for protection.

When hungry, the oyster just opens his shell and in rushes the food.

But when God made man and the maid, He said, “Fill the earth, and subdue it; you are the masters of the fish and birds and all animals.”

Then He gave man seed-bearing plants and fruit trees, and said, “Farm the ground.”

And the Bible adds, “Work for your living. He who does not work shall not eat.”

God meant for us to aspire and then to perspire, to hope and then hop to it.

Prayer: Deliver us, heavenly Father, from being lazy in our work, lukewarm in our worship, and loveless in our ways. Save us from all idleness and iniquity. Inspire us to grow, to glow, and to go for Thee: through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

eSeed: P.L.O.M.

P. L. O. M.
Read Psalm 101:4 TLB

There was a girl who was a chronic complainer. Even when opportunity knocked, she grumbled about the noise.

One day her mother had heard enough of her complaints and said to her, “You’ve got a bad case of P. L. O. M. disease. That means Poor Little Ole Me.”

Self-pity! It doesn’t help, it hinders. It doesn’t lift, it lowers. It doesn’t purify, it poisons.

Self-pity will parch your attitudes, paralyze your abilities, and put off your achievements. It prohibits excellence and prevents expansion.

Let’s say with the Psalmist, “I will reject all selfishness and stay away from every evil.”

Prayer: Save us, Father, from selfishness and self-pity. Make our hearts tender and sympathetic like Thine. Constrain us to help others and thus to honor Thee. Inspire us to live as Christians should. Hear us we pray: in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.

eSeed: Pep, But No Power

PEP BUT NO POWER
Read Psalm 85:6

A deacon said to a preacher one morning, “We need a revival. The blower is blowing, but the fire is out.”

How like so many of our churches.

There’s the form but not the force, the motion but not the devotion, the shove but not the love, the spire but not the fire.

They are beautiful in foliage but barren in fruit, rich in tradition but poor in submission, they have given their silver to the Lord but not their souls.

If the church is to enjoy survival, we Christians must experience revival.

Want to experience a revival in your church? Ask the Lord to come into your heart again and feel a wonderful revival.

Prayer: Come into our hearts today, Father, and help us to grow and glow. Deliver us from being stunted saints, backslidden believers, and workless worshipers. Constrain us to be all that Thou dost want us to be: through Christ. Amen.

eSeed: The Sparrow's Fall

THE SPARROW’S FALL
Read Matthew 10:29
Yesterday a sparrow hit the glass wall of our studio and fell to the ground.

Immediately I thought of the words of our Lord: “Not one sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it.”
It’s natural to associate death with the word fall. But it also refers to our daily doings.

Our heavenly Father marks the sparrow every time it lights upon the ground and hops around for food. And you’re more valuable to Him than many sparrows.

God loves you. His love wants what’s best for you. His power can produce what’s best for you.

So trust Him, won’t you?

Prayer: Inspire us, Father, to take Thee at Thy word. Keep us from doubting Thee or denying Thee. Lift us out of our littleness and weakness. Increase our faith that we may always trust Thee, and deepen our spiritual insight: through Christ. Amen.

eSeed: The Strenuous Life

THE STRENUOUS LIFE
Read 1 Timothy 4:14-16 TLB

Teddy Roosevelt lived every day with gusto. He was never known to rest, except when he slept.

He was called, “The Apostle Of The Strenuous Life.”

By “strenuous” he meant using your brain as well as your brawn, being enthusiastic as well as engaging.

But while he was busy, his life wasn’t barren. He produced, he didn’t just piddle.

The Bible says, “Be sure you use the abilities God has given you…Put these abilities to work; throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone may notice your progress…Stay true to what is right, and God will bless you and use you to help others.”

Prayer: Keep us, Father, from being complacent and careless. Deliver us from doing sloppy and shoddy work. Constrain us to be our best, to do our best and to live our best for Thee at all times: in the name of Jesus Christ, our
Lord. Amen.

eSeed: Work Hard And Cheerfully

WORK HARD AND CHEERFULLY
Read Colossians 3:22-25 TLB
The ragged man had a desperate gleam in his eye. He said to a lady, “Unless you help me, I’ll have to do something horrible.”

Shuddering, the lady gave him ten dollars. And she said, “From what horrible thing have I saved you?”

“Work, ma’am,” he answered.

But work is honorable, not horrible. It’s a blessing, not a blight. It’s something you should live to do, not do to live. So work gratefully, and not grudgingly.

The Bible says, “Work hard and cheerfully at all you do, just as though you were working for the Lord, and not merely your masters, remembering that it is the Lord who is going to pay you.”

Prayer: Stir us, Father, and make us excel in our work. Give us a sense of dedication to our work, a spirit of cooperation with our co-workers, a courage to face our difficulties, and a faith which holds us steady: through Christ.
Amen.

eSeed: Never Got Around To It

NEVER GOT AROUND TO IT
Read John 1:12

A stranger was driving down a country road, and he came upon an old man looking at the ruins of his barn.

“What happened?” he asked.

“Roof fell in,” answered the old man. “It leaked so long it got rotten.”

“Why didn’t you fix it?” the stranger wondered.

“Well,” answered the man, “I never got around to it. When the weather was good, there was no need. When it rained, it was too wet to work.”

Don’t you think it’s time you got around to receiving the Lord? Put it off and you’ll perish.

The Bible says, “As many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the children of God, even to them that believed on His name.”

Prayer: Father, take our lives that are soiled and stained with sin. Cleanse us and control us, making us beautiful, useful and profitable Christians, honoring Thee and helping others: in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

eSeed: My Mom's Lost

MY MOM’S LOST
Read Luke 19:10

A big sale was in progress, and the department store was swarming with bargain hunters.

In the confusion a little boy ran over to the Lost & Found department, sobbing, “My mom’s lost!”

But he, not his mother, was lost.

How many others are lost, and don’t know it.

Something’s lost when it’s in the wrong place. And you’re lost because you’ve wandered away from God.

But you don’t have to find Him. He has come to seek and to save you.

You’re just a step from Him. That step is turning around.

Turn around, and you’ll find yourself in the arms of the seeking, loving God.

Prayer: Father, we have wandered away from Thee. Happily and heartily we turn away from all our sins to Thee. We submit ourselves to Thee, to take up our cross and to follow Thee: in Christ. Amen.
