eSeed: A Malicious Look

A MALICIOUS LOOK
Read Psalm 90:17

A wife was bragging to her new maid. “My husband,” she declared, “is the head of our State Militia!”

“I might have guessed it,” said the maid. “He’s got a malicious look.”

What kind of a look do you have?

If you have the Lord within, His loveliness will be seen without.

Your face will reflect blessedness, not bitterness. Your eyes will radiate faith, not fear. Your expression will register affection, not aggression. Your features will reveal kindness, not cruelty.

Let’s pray with the Psalmist, “Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us.”

Prayer: Father, grant that Thy beauty will be seen in our lives and Thy blessedness be spoken by our lips. May our lives and our love be a leading influence on our companions, children and all those that we meet: through Christ. Amen.

eSeed: Turn My Back To The Wind

TURN MY BACK TO THE WIND
Read Psalm 29:7-11

A tramp was asked, “When you wake up in the morning, how do you shape your course?”

“I always turn my back to the wind,” he replied.

Where he went made no difference. He refused to buck the wind. He took the path of least resistance.

But following the line of least resistance leads to confusion, crookedness and collapse. Following the Lord leads to a clear conscience, a clean character and the comforts of the celestial city.

The Psalmist prayed, “Teach me, O Lord, the way.”

To know and go in the Lord’s way – nothing more, nothing less, nothing else – brings joy here and hereafter.

Prayer: We thank Thee, Father, that in coming to Thee we have happiness here and heaven hereafter. We acknowledge that the manifestations of Thy grace and goodness are more than we deserve: in Christ. Amen.

eSeed: From Problem To Profit

FROM PROBLEM TO PROFIT
Read James 1:5 TLB
About a hundred years ago there was a candlestick-maker who often stopped at a market on his way home and bought fish for his evening meal.

It was wrapped in ordinary paper which became soggy, and the passengers on the street car always complained about the odor.

One morning he dipped some paper in molten wax. That day he wrapped his fish in the treated paper. It didn’t become soggy, and there was no odor.

That’s how wax paper was born.

Got a problem? Don’t curse it. Look for a cure.

The Bible says, God “is always ready to give a bountiful supply of wisdom to all who ask Him.”

Prayer: Lord Jesus, Thou art so gracious and so good to me. I thank Thee for the talents that Thou hast given me. Inspire me to discover and to develop each one so that daily I will honor Thee and I will help others: through Christ. Amen.

eSeed: A Good Yarn

A GOOD YARN
Read Proverbs 3:3 TLB

Wanting to buy a sweater, but looking at the price tag, a man asked, “Isn’t two hundred dollars high for a sweater?”

“No, sir,” said the clerk. “It’s all wool. And it’s shorn from a special breed of sheep. It’s quite a yarn.”

“You’re right,” said the man, “and you tell it well.”

That’s the trouble. A falsehood is so easy. Truth is so difficult.

But truthfulness makes us conduits of courage. It adds fragrance to our friendships, harmony to our homes, and benefits to our businesses.

The Bible says, “Never forget to be truthful and kind. Hold these virtues tightly. Write them deep within your heart.”

Prayer: Father, take control of our tongues. Guard our lips from telling lies. Turn us away from evil places, pleasures and people, and lead us into right paths. Help us to speak the truth in love: in Christ’s name. Amen.

eSeed: Get Out Of the Dirt

GET OUT OF THE DIRT
Read 1 John 2:15-17
A little girl was helping her mother work in her flower garden. Watering a beautiful plant, she cried, “Mom, I know why flowers grow.”

“Why?” she asked.

“Because,” she answered, “they want to get out of the dirt.”

A Christian has his roots on this earth, but he has his heart set on things above. He gets his cues of behavior from the word, not the world.

He values the Bible above books, character above convenience, God above gold, loyalty above license, self-control above self-indulgence.

The best way to live in this world is to live above it. Be like the flowers – grow to get out of the dirt.

Prayer: Help us, heavenly Father, to wait on Thee, that Thou mayest strengthen and sustain us, cleanse and control us, mold us and make us Christlike Christians. Constrain us to keep our eyes on Thee: in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

eSeed: Great Men Make Mistakes

GREAT MEN MAKE MISTAKES
Read 1 John 1:1-9

On his last visit to Philadelphia, President John F. Kennedy gave a man his pencil. On one end was an eraser that showed signs of much use. A friend asked him, “What do you cherish most about that pencil?”

“The eraser,” he answered. “When I look at it I’m reminded that great men also make mistakes.”

“Yes,” says the Living Bible, “all have sinned. No one anywhere has kept on doing what is right, not one.”

Where’s the Divine eraser that can remove our sins? The Bible answers, “The blood of Jesus cleanses us from every sin.”

Made mistakes? Want them erased? Go to the Lord. He’ll cleanse you.

Prayer: Keep us, Father, from committing the same sins over again. Inspire us to willingly and whole heartedly obey Thee. Grant that we may only do Thy will and always delight in Thy word, pleasing Thee in everything: in Christ. Amen.

eSeed: Hair-Spray-Can Religion

HAIR-SPRAY-CAN RELIGION
Read John 10:27-30

“I wish,” said a preacher, “that we could package religion in spray cans. It would be more popular.”

Maybe, for some prefer their religion in “short bursts.” They’re a little too bad to be good, so they’d like a “shot” every now and then just to be respectable, but not too religious.

There are many who’d like to make use of their religion only when they’re “under pressure.” They turn to God in their pain, but they turn from Him in their pleasure.

Many pastors would like a “hair-spray-can religion” for the “hard-to-hold” members so they’d “keep their religion in place all day.”

But the Lord will do that for you, if you’ll turn your life over to Him.

Why don’t you do it now?

Prayer: Father, I offer myself to Thee. Take me. Be Thou my Master. I will be Thy slave. I want to be a slave to all that is right, holy and good. Use me for Thy purposes: through Christ. Amen.

eSeed: Faith and Works

FAITH AND WORKS
Read James 2:14-17

Bill Jones was riding in his boat when it overturned about a mile from shore. His friends knew he wasn’t a good swimmer, and they thought he’d drown.

But he didn’t, and when he reached the shore, they asked, “How did you ever make it?”

“I don’t know,” he answered. “All I know is that I prayed to God, and kept my arms and legs in stroke.”

What a good secret for survival – pray to God and do your best.

It was General Booth who said, “Work as if everything depended on work, and pray as if everything depended on prayer.”

My friend, don’t expect to lean on the Lord, if you lean on the shovel. Prove your faith by your works.

Prayer: Help us, Father, never to be satisfied with words without work, with promises without performance, with prayer without putting feet to our prayers: through Christ. Amen.

eSeed: It Won't Come Sweet

IT WON’T COME SWEET
Read Psalm 119:9-16

A little girl sat at the table, stirring and sipping her tea. Bursting into tears, she cried, “Mom, it won’t come sweet.”

“Did you put sugar in it?” asked the mother.

“Oh, no!” answered the girl. “I forgot.”

This done, the sugar did the rest.

No amount of stirring can make your life sweet. But when you invite the Lord to come into your heart, He makes it sweet.

He gives affection for anger, graciousness for gracelessness, helpfulness for harmfulness.

Sweetness of life is only possible as He who is the Sweetener dwells within your heart.

Tired of stirring in vain? Invite the Lord into your heart, won’t you?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, unlock my heart and come in. Undo my tangles and free me from my evil habits. With Thy pardon, grant the power to overcome sin and not be overcome by sin: in Thy name. Amen.

eSeed: No Man Gains Who Gives Up God

NO MAN GAINS WHO GIVES UP GOD
Read Mark 8:34-38

There were many blossoms on our pear tree, and a friend said, “You’re going to have many pears.”

“Maybe,” I replied, “but not all will become pears. Some will fall off.”

That happens to people, too. Look at Judas.

He cast his lot with the Lord. He became a blossom. He was so beautiful that he was chosen treasurer. He worked with Christ, but he never blossomed into a Christian.

Why? He didn’t receive Christ, for he loved silver more than the Savior, and he sold the Lord for thirty pieces of silver.

Did he gain by it? No. He lost his silver and his soul.

No man gains who gives up God.

Prayer: Father, I come to Thee. Receive me and redeem me. Create within me a clean heart, filled with clean thoughts and right desires. Make me willing to obey Thee: in Thy name. Amen.

eSeed: Using A Word Seven Times

USING A WORD SEVEN TIMES
Read John 1:1-12

A language arts teacher was stressing the need of a large vocabulary to her English class. “Using a word seven times,” she insisted, “will make it yours.”

Mary was in love with John and she wanted to make him love her. So she said seven times, “John, John, John, John, John, John, John.”

But just as repeating John’s name didn’t make him hers, so repeating the name of the Lord won’t make Him yours. But receiving Him in your heart will.

Say to Him, “Lord Jesus, I receive Thee. Here’s my body, live in it. Here’s my brain, think through it. Here’s my face, glow from it. Here’s my heart, love with it.”

Prayer: Knowing, heavenly Father, that my body belongs to Thee, I yield myself completely to Thee – every part of me – to be used for Thy good purposes. Have Thine own way in my life: through Christ. Amen.

eSeed: When I Ask God To Forgive Me

WHEN I ASK GOD TO FORGIVE ME
Read 1 John 1:5-10

A boy was asked, “What’s wrong with your face?”

“Jeanne scratched me,” he cried. “We had a fight. She’s bad!”

“Don’t talk like that,” begged his sister. “I asked you to forgive me. When I ask God to forgive me, He doesn’t mention it any more. The matter’s closed.”

How true! Concerning those who have asked for His forgiveness, He says, “Their sins will I remember no more.”

When God forgives, He forgets; and He helps you to forgive and forget. Then He enables you to think positively, walk fearlessly, live victoriously and sing happily.

Prayer: Give me such love for Thee, Lord Jesus, that I will forgive quickly and forget immediately. More and more think Thy thoughts with my mind, love with my heart, and work in my body: in Thy name. Amen.

eSeed: I Love You, Not The Car

I LOVE YOU, NOT THE CAR
Read Colossians 3:18-19

A woman’s car was sideswiped on a trip to the store. Tearfully opening the glove compartment, she looked for the insurance papers on the car for the police officer.

Fumbling through them she saw a note her husband had written. It read: “Dear Mary, when you need these papers, remember it’s you I love, not the car.”

Isn’t that precious!

Cars don’t make a home, caring does. Gifts don’t keep a family together, God does. Lust isn’t the foundation for a happy home, love is.

Invite the Lord into your house, and He’ll bring in His life, love and laughter; and you’ll have a safe home.

Prayer: Father, make our homes heavenly and happy. Help us to live love, to lighten the load of our loved ones, to be gracious and godly, and always do those things that please Thee: through Christ. Amen.
